Is It Time to Ditch Outdated Wedding Traditions?

Weddings create many lasting and iconic memories. Everyone remembers the bride as she tosses her bouquet of flowers to the lovely ladies in the crowd hoping some of that marriage magic will rub off on them. And who can forget the garter toss, right guys? Let’s not forget about cutting the wedding cake.
Everything mentioned above is a tried-and-true wedding tradition. And whether you love them or hate them, you are most likely going to see them if you attend a wedding now or in the near future.
Which wedding traditions will you keep at your wedding? We’ll take a look at many of the most popular and tell you why we feel a particular tradition should stay or go.

The Wedding Registry
In all honesty, creating a wedding registry is definitely a good idea. But that doesn’t mean that the soon-to-be married couple needs to create a traditional wedding registry. They may have other needs that must be met before or after they are married.
As an example, let’s say the happy couple wants to go on the best honeymoon possible after they finally tie the knot. Many young couples can’t afford to take the honeymoon of their dreams. This sad situation can easily be rectified by taking the traditional wedding registry and turning it on its head.
Instead of asking friends and family members to buy duplicates and triplicates of household items that you already own, ask them to donate money to your crowdfunding for honeymoon page instead. Once you receive enough financial gifts from the people that you love, you’ll easily be able to afford the honeymoon that you’ve always wanted.
On the other hand, some newly married couples might prefer to skip the gifts and receive cash for a down payment or a charity. By going this route, the future married couple may receive enough financial gifts to finally afford a down payment on their dream starter home. Or better yet, they could even donate this money to their favorite charity if they so desire. The possibilities are endless when a wedding registry is used differently than it’s normally used in a traditional sense.

Wedding Day Sweet Treats
Traditionally, every wedding will have a beautiful wedding cake. And nobody is saying that this tradition has to come to an end. On the contrary, the wedding cake and the cutting of the cake is definitely a beautiful tradition.
But everybody loves sweets, right? Why not provide your guests with access to an amazing candy buffet? We say the more candy the merrier. You can fill the buffet with candy bars, pie pops, gorgeous cupcakes, and even add a do-it-yourself s’mores station.
Sounds appetizing, right? This will definitely tantalize the pickiest sweet tooth.
The First Dance
Everybody loves watching the happy couple share their first dance together. But they only want to watch the happy couple get down on the dance floor for a little while. Stay away from the long, drawn out power ballads when choosing your wedding song. Try to keep far away from popular songs that everyone hears all the time when they go to weddings.
Instead, choose a song that is personal to you as a couple. Pick something that really expresses your love for one another. And do yourselves and your guests a favor and try to choose a song that doesn’t go on and on forever.

Conclusion
We’ve only scratched the surface as far as wedding traditions are concerned. A number of other great traditions include cake cutting, garter and bouquet toss; something old, something new, something borrowed, something blue; and more.
Ultimately, choose wedding traditions that ring true to you and alter or avoid all the rest.
